Selected works on paper
Drawing is a fundamental practice for Francesco Gioacchini; the idea of duality, explored as one of the topics in the whole research, is something that belongs to drawing too. Abstract composition and figuration are both valuable subjects along with the usage of text, and the works on paper condenses all the possibilities further addressed in paintings and installations.
Madonnas are a recurrent topic in the artist drawing pieces; Francesco Gioacchini starts from reproduction of Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings (found in school books or catalogues) and uses them to study composition, lines, volumes and to generate a kind of visual summary of the original artwork. Drawing, as a way of learning, is something that connects this practice to the high school years, when the study of art went through the analysis of hundreds of religious or sacred subjects.
